The Guidelines for The Baby Bowl Experiment:

1. The meal has to fit in the bowl, up to the rim. I can, however, go beyond the rim with fruits and vegetables.
2. I can eat whatever I want.
3. I can have more than one bowl of food but I have to wait 20 minutes between each bowl.
4. I have to chew the food as close to a liquid state as possible.
5. Only water.

(For additional information about these guidelines, see Days 2 and 27.)

Day 11 - March 4 - Getting to the Simple Formula

Eating Less + Moving More = Weight Loss

How many times have we heard this "simple" formula? Intellectually, we know this to be true. It's math. The problem is that it leaves out the emotions, the history and the personality of the individual involved. How do you just hand this formula to a person too embarrassed to take part in a class at the gym? How do you take away the guilt from someone who feels they should finish everything on their plate? How do we stop being overwhelmed by the number of pounds we have to lose? These aren't easy questions but I would offer this: Find the joy.

For me, I love taking classes at the gym because it's about hanging out with chicks I like. It's about moving my body in a way that feels like dancing at the club. The cardio I get is all bonus. I'm working The Baby Bowl Experiment because the thought of a grown woman eating out of a baby bowl is funny to me. It gives me an excuse to write. It's great having a new project. It's an opportunity to share my faith and I LOVE the thought this might help someone else. Eating more responsibly is all bonus.

Folks, you have to know what makes you happy and find a way to express it in the way you get healthy. Are you someone who likes competition? Start a Biggest Loser competition with your friends and get on the Wii! Do you hate feeling like you're doing it all alone? Find a workout buddy and try Weight Watchers! Do you need structure in the way you eat? Start Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem! Are you motivated by rewards? Assign a reward for yourself at weight loss milestones! You see where I'm going with this.

I have a long way to go and I want to have fun on this journey! I would be lying if I said it didn't have its challenges but it's worth it for the bigger JOY. May you find the joy...

Meaningful Movement: I rested my bones!

Food that fits in a baby bowl, Day 11:
-Buffet food at church (cubed fruit, mini muffins, a cream-orange-nut-marshmallow thingy, a potato thingy and a cheesecake danishy thingy)

-1/4 c of the orangy-nut-cream thing an half a slice of blueberry loaf
-Lenten fast: lunch
-1/2 cheeseburger and potato wedges

NOTE: Coming off my lunch fast at 5pm, I was STARVING and happened to be at the hospital. I knew my next stop was going to be Sam's Club so I wanted to make sure I didn't shop hungry. I found the gnarliest burger I could find in the hospital cafeteria and got some food in the tumster before I headed to Sam's. Let me tell you, it was SO good! Food tastes SO much better when you are JONESIN'! The burger actually fit better in the baby bowl before I added the veggies from the salad bar.
-Sam's Club samples: 2 shrimp, 1/2 a cream puff (Marianne got the other half) and a sample cup of chocolate and vanilla frozen yogurt
